Review for Center For International Environmental Law (CIEL), Washington, DC, USA
After twelve years teaching law and working on environmental legal reform in the Soviet region, I have spent the last twenty years in the field of international law. Since my initial contacts with CIEL in the early 1990s, it has been a constant source of inspiration and professional knowledge for me. I served on its advisory board before being elected to its Board of Trustees in 2011.
CIEL is a unique non-profit with a solid reputation around the world and a tremendous capacity to make a difference. Its excellent lawyers and scientists, all deeply committed to a public interest agenda, address complex global challenges in a way that no other US or European non-profit organization does. To list only a few of their many achievements, their work promotes the rule of law, supports the concerns and needs of local communities around the world and helps to achieve transparency in environmental governance and in the activities of international financial institutions. What CIEL is trying to accomplish affects each and all of us, and merits our support.
