Review for India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), N Bethesda, MD, USA
As a professional with over forty years of experience in international development, I look for five key qualities in the Non-profits I support:
Whether the causes they support resonate with me;
Whether they try to reach the most needy without discriminating on the basis of personal biases or philosphies;
Whether they exercise adequate diligence in selecting their beneficiaries and in ensuring that the donor contributions are put to good use;
Whether they are fully transparent in reporting on their operations; and
Whether they keep their overheads low so that bulk of the donor funds go to the intended beneficiaries.
Based on my knowledge of the IDRF, as a donor and as an interested observer, I have no doubt that IDRF rates very highly in all five areas. As a result, I believe, it is making difference much beyond its meagre resources in helping improve the lives of the neglected and deserving in India.
The single most important factor behind IDRF's success to-date is the dedication, energy and passion that Vinod and Sarla have brought to bear on the IDRF's work over the past quarter century. I am proud to have supported this very worthwhile endeavor.
