If you visit Hosanna, the capital city of the Hadiya Zone in southern Ethiopia, you won't have to walk too far off the main thoroughfare, running down the center of town, before you come to big green gates that open to a large government school and the newly constructed community library.

This spacious sturdy building and the thousands of books it houses is now the pride of a community that sincerely wants their children to have the benefit of books in their lives. Their desire became the driving passion of Helen Boxwill who created h2Empower after living in Hosanna and teaching at the Teachers' College there.

h2Empower Inc. continues to work with a wide range of stakeholders to enrich learning, teaching and community life in Burundi and Ethiopia. As a board member who has had the privilege of sharing books with the children who gather in the library and working with their teachers in Hosanna classrooms, I am proud to be a part of this small but dynamic organization and grateful for the opportunity it gives me to give back.
