Review for India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), N Bethesda, MD, USA
I have known and been associated with India Development and Relief Fund for last 12 years and have visited several IDRF supported projects all over India. IDRF is an unique organisation with a combination of compassion and professionalism. Through volunteering, it has kept its administrative cost very low and at the same time has strictly followed laws of India and US, proactively disclosed financial and non-financial reports on its website, monitored progress of supported projects and provided useful feedback. All partner organisations I have interacted with appreciate IDRF's contribution in bringing positive changes in the lives of people. One Teacher Schools, Mobile Medical Vans, dormitories in remote tribal areas; women empowerment through micro-enterprise development; promoting good governance through social audit are some of the examples of IDRF's interventions. In addition, IDRF has also responded to natural calamities in the past such as Latur earthquake, Orissa super cyclone, Gujarat earthquake and Tsunami. I have personally visited a number of rehabilitation projects supported by IDRF. Jeevan Prabhat at Gandhidham, a dormitory for orphan children may be visited to see the dedication of IDRF and its partner organisation.
