Review for The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Keenesburg, CO, USA
I'm lucky to live close enough to the Sanctuary that I can visit the place (roundtrip) on a short daytrip basis. I've been a few times now, and intend to visit more often in the future. What struck me most strongly on my first visit, from first to last, and ever since, is that at the Sanctuary the comfort and welfare of the animals is Priority One. That includes their peace and comfort in the present moment as well as long-term. The Mile Into the Wild walkway is a work of genius, which lets us mere humans view the animals without stressing them. From bears playing, to a big old lion rolling over to rub his back in the dirt, and many other such moments, it's been a privilege to witness these critters living in appropriate environments. Last month I took a friend from out of state to the Sanctuary. She's truly a lifetime world traveler, and has I think seen every official Wonder of the World as well as countless other sites and places. She loved the Sanctuary! She's still mentioning it to me in emails and is so glad she got to visit it. Which reminds me to not take it for granted just because it's fairly close to home!
