Review for Partners in Torah, Passaic, NJ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I started out as a student. I thoroughly enjoyed lerning with my study partner, but our schedules eventually diverged and we stopped. My husband's study partner told me that Partners in Torah was looking for more people to be on the 'teaching' end. It turned out that I had enough background to be of help. It's kind of like 'each one teach one'. You don't have to be a great scholar to get involved. Whatever you know, there is someone who knows less, that you can share with. This has also given me the opportunity to stretch myself and learn things I hadn't known, or get deeper acquainted with some things I thought I already knew. The chavrusah approach to learning is more personal than 'book learning' and you develop a relationship with your study partner. The Jewish people needs to work on unity and this is a marvelous way to do it. There is also a give-and-take in this kind of learning that helps you see things from angles you might not have anticipated. There is rabbinic support for questions that may come up. There is also a regular email that brings up questions and situations from others' experiences and suggestions on how to deal with those issues. I am very excited about being part of this organization.
