I'm an intern alum from CARE. i recently spent my entire summer at CARE interning and taking care of all the Cats. i first heard about CARE from my previous roommate who had just interned there herself. All she would ever talk about was of how amazing the Cats were and how much experience you got working with them. I would always sit there in awe when she told me about it, and grew more and more jealous. Then, this past winter, she invited me to come down to Texas and spend two weeks at CARE. Of course I said yes! When I arrived there, I was in awe of all the Cats. They were all so happy and at peace living out on the compound. You could tell that they were well taken care of. I was able to witness Heidi and Derek's relationship with the animals. They show so much love and passion in what they do here, it's definitely an environment you would want to work in and be around. So after spending the two weeks there, i decided I wanted to apply for summer internship there. I returned in the summer, and could not believe the experience I had gained working there. Working here has pushed me to be a better worker and also an individual. Heidi runs a great intern program, she prepares you for the real world and gives you the experience you need to have that upper edge on other applicants in the job field. Heidi is such a role model to me, she just puts so much energy into CARE. I don't know how she does it. She knows so much knowledge about the cats, and has so much passion. I hope that one day I'll reach that point in my career. CARE has become a facility where the public can come out interact with the Cats at a much closer level than at any zoo. But they do take safety VERY seriously, for both the public & volunteers, and for also the animals. I am forever grateful for the chance to become a part of this organization, and i do every thing I can to help promote it and get it the recognition it needs! I can't wait to travel back and visit every chance I get, working here as been such a big impact on me. Donators and volunteers are always welcome, there's definitely enough room for the CARE family to grow!
