I've been volunteering at the AZ Humane Society for about 14 months. I walk dogs at the Campus for Compassion at South Mountain which is about a 50 minute drive for me. I try and get down there for a few ours every weekend. The 3-4 hours I'm there each week is very special to me. People often tell me they could never volunteer at an animal shelter because it would be too depressing for them. I have to say that I use to think it was sad but my time volunteering here has made me see how wonderful a place it really is. Everyone who works there as an employee or volunteer loves animals and would do anything to ensure they are safe, healthy and happy. What a great place for a pooch, kittie or critter to be right? Yes, it's sad when you see the same face for a few months and you just don't get why people are passing them by...but that is what is so great, the AZ Humane Society doesn't give up on them until they find their forever home. I feel really lucky to be able to volunteer at such a great place where I'm able to give and get so much unconditional love!
