Review for Ellen Gifford Sheltering Home, Brighton, MA, USA
Like many of the other reviewers, I cannot say enough about the Gifford Cat Shelter. I have been fortunate enough to volunteer for the past 10 years, 4 of which have included my young son. The shelter's complete focus is on the cats. Their health and happiness is paramount to the Gifford. They are not interested in 'getting them in and getting them out,' like other shelters. The Gifford takes the time to get to know each cat's personality: are they shy, do they get along well with other cats, are they active and need a stimulating environment, does the cat have special needs? The Gifford also takes the time to get to know the potential adopter: do you have children, another pet at home etc. They want to make sure that they make the best possible match for feline and person alike. They truly want each and every cat to find their 'forever home.' My family and I are also 6 time adopters from the Gifford. Our lives have been enriched by being associated with this fantastic organization.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
make sure the Shelter Director stays forever! Debbie has been a true visionary when it comes to improving on an already wonderful organization. Cat ladders, a feral cat enclosure and an outdoor cat environment are just a few of the additions she has made in her short tenure as Director. Her love and devotion to the Gifford cats is evident, humbling and inspiring.
