The Public-Private Alliance Foundation (PPAF) provides support to group leaders based in Haiti - not in the capital, but in Jacmel where the latest earthquake was located and is in most need of aid and assitance. By providing financial support to the local group leaders the funds are used directly for the assistance and training of others in healthy nutrition. This training is them spread to others, multiplying the donated funds effecrtiveness.

PPAF has spent decades working to improve conditions for people living in third world countries. With a primary focus on health, PPAF is working, in coalitions with other non-profit organizations, to manufacture and distribute cook stoves, both ethanol based and solar cookers, to replace wood burning cook stoves around the world. The indirect impacts of wood burning cook stoves, being deforestation and subsequent erosion, are of equal or greater magnitude.
PPAF has been successful in setting up pilot sites in Haiti to show the available alternative cook stoves, to provide training in their use and demonstrate how using the cook stoves can empower the local women to start local businesses such as bakeries, hot lunch shops and cooked market foods. This in turn improves the family income and provides more opportunities for the family.

The PPAF steps up to the plate as new demands and opportunities are given to it. As part of its continuing effort to replace wood burning stoves in Haiti with sustainable cook-top stoves, it has expanded its efforts of providing ethanol based cook-top stoves to include solar cookers. The solar cookers have been found to provide the indirect benefit of also enabling women to start a small business in their village as local bakers of bread and cakes, or meals for local workers and similar cooking opportunities. This results in a source of income for their family, and a boost to the local village economy.
PPAF is working with local Haitian alcohol producers to encourage the local distilleries to produce the 90 to 95% ethanol to provide a cost effective supply of ethanol for use with the ethanol cook-top stoves.

The PPAF is an organisation that not only wants to do go for people, but wants to involve the people that they benefit, so that they in turn are involved to help others with the same need. The focus of their project is not to hand out a benefit, but to address a need that also solves other social and environmental problems.
