My hour of need

I am MSG Ed Hall, I have had the privilege to serve on ODA 195 (pre 2007 ODA numerical re designation), serve on ODA 1136 for 5 years having the honor to serve as Team Sergeant for 4 years and now I reside in OPSDET 1st SFG(A). On 10 May 2013 my families world was turned upside down when a growth was found in the brain of my loving wife of 10 years. Our wold spiraled even further out of control on 29 May 2013, one week and a day after a fist size tumor was removed from her right temporal lobe, when we were told that she had Grade III brain cancer. This was my hour of need, this was the single moment in my life that I was truly lost with no idea where to turn.
I did not have to look very far as my brothers in arms contacted me from around the globe with offers of help and shows of support. Some of the most significant support has come from the Green Beret Foundation (GBF). To be honest the most difficult question to answer has been, "what do you need?", there is no way that we could have prepared for a situation like this and so we had no idea what to ask for.
As we continued though this journey we started realizing that the help we needed most was with our three boys, (9 years, 5 years, and 2 year old). This is where the GBF stepped up, they paid for my wife's cousin to fly here and pay her to help out with our kids. This has been more helpful than words can describe, giving my household the structure it lost when this whole thing started. There is no way you can put a price on having an organization out there standing ready to help Green Berets and their families like the Green Beret Foundation and no way I could possibly thank them.
The GBF was not done, when it came time for me to return to work, they once again came to our aid and pain for daycare for our 2 younger children. I truly have no Idea where my family would be without the Green Beret Foundation, but I thank God everyday for them and for the amazing people who donate to them.

My Hour of Need

I am Master Sergeant Ed Hall and I have had the privilege to serve on Operational Detachment-Alpha (ODA) 195, ODA 1136 for five years for which I’ve had the honor to serve as Team Sergeant for four years. I now I reside in the Operations Detachment with 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). On 10 May 2013, my families’ world was turned upside down when a growth was found in the brain of my loving wife of nine and a half years. Our world spiraled even further out of control on 29 May 2013, when we were told that she had Grade III brain cancer -- one week and a day after a fist size tumor was removed from her right temporal lobe. This was my hour of need and this was the single moment in my life that I was truly lost with no idea where to turn.

I did not have to look very far as my brothers in arms contacted me from around the globe with offers of help and shows of support. Some of the most significant support has come from the Green Beret Foundation (GBF) with Blake Miles from the GBF and Mike Stewart from the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Care Coalition leading the charge. To be honest, the most difficult question to answer has been, "What do you need?" There is no way that we could have prepared for a situation like this and so we had no idea what to ask for.

As we continued though this journey, we started realizing that the help we needed most was with our three boys (8 years, 4 years, and 1 year). This is where the GBF stepped up. They paid for my wife's cousin to fly here and continue to pay her as she stays and help out with our kids. This has been more helpful than words can describe, giving my household the structure it lost when this whole thing started.

There is no way you can put a price on having an organization out there standing ready to help Green Berets and their families like the Green Beret Foundation and no way I could possibly thank them enough.
