I worked with the Great Falls Youth Corps, a group of high school ambassadors dedicated to improving the Great Falls National Historical Park. We linked up with CityScience, who was the perfect partner. CityScience provided hands-on materials and curricula to give the students a better understanding of urban science. This included mapping, geology, geography, water testing, and many other ways that caused the students to connect to their community and get an understanding of their environment. The curricula was hands-on and practical, and made the students actually get out into the community and use the lessons they had learned in the classroom. The staff was very accomodating, and was always on hand to answer questions, come visit with the students, or lead some lessons themselves. Thor and his team are constantly coming up with new ways to make science practical and appealing to the youth, and my students clearly changed the way they thought about urban science after working with CityScience!
