My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for My Hero Project Inc, Laguna Beach, CA, USA
Great ideas start small. In 1995, three moms responded to the lack of positive role models for kids in the media by starting the My Hero Project. It began as a website compiling stories of heroism from around the world and sharing them with people of all ages through classrooms, publications, workshops and community outreach. The Project engaged a lively discussion of what heroism is and invited participants to contribute their own stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The seed took and the idea grew from reaching fifty thousand people in the first few years to more than twenty million in the last five. It is an organization about to pop into broader awareness from its new home at the Capshaw-Spielberg Center for Educational Justice in Los Angeles. The My Hero Project remains true to its vision, its growth is exponential, the need that it serves is vital in our world and it's reach is global. I have been a board member for 15 years and I continue to be amazed by the power of this simple idea.
