Review for JUNEAU ARTS AND HUMANITIES COUNCIL, Juneau, AK, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Juneau is a community with many creative artists. The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council (JAHC)also associated with the Juneau Arts and Culture Center (JACC) serves all aspects of the community, with an art gallery, music, dance, and many community events inlcuding a community market that helps small businesses, like a rhubarb ice cream, or fresh baked bread, or home made jams made from wild berries and its largest fundraiser, the Wearable Art event which sells out every year. Money from events are turned around to support the community form of art scholarships and sponsorship to bring a variety of arts events into Juneau and support for the arts. This truly is a community inspired. Its website is also a clearinghouse for knowing of any kind of community and art events going on in the community. We couldn't have a better arts organization that truly answers to all aspects of the arts in Juneau. And incredibly, it has a very small staff, supported by many volunteers. Its amazing. Juneau would not be the same place without JAHC and the JACC!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand the JACC to have more room for a true gallery, a dance studio, and art space to hold classes, or where artists can come to work together or to share knowledge of arts and crafts such as pottery, or wood working, or crafts, or music, or drama or anything that uplifts a society, but as always, this takes a lot of money and the committment of the city of Juneau to buy in and truly support the arts.
