My name is Don Sanders and I have been on the Board of Directors of MMI for over 13 years. I wasn't sure what to list as my role since I am also a donor, and a Volunteer. I am an Ophthalmologist and have been making yearly 2 week mission trips to Peru for many years. One of my daughter has accompanied me a number of time but last year both of my daughters came with me and it was really a great trip for all of us. They are both coming back to Peru with me this year and it delights me to see my children taking an interest in serving the poor. I, like most of us, am used to my usual creature comforts and going to a third world country definitely means getting out of my comfort zone. That being said, I truly look forward to this time every year because I realize that the poor people we see have no other recourse to medical care and we make a huge difference in their lives. It is humbling to realize that some people travel days to be seen by our group and from cataract surgery to dispensing glasses, we change people's lives; from the docs to the general helpers, everyone makes a difference to these underserved poor, largely indian population. MMI is THE charitable organization that I choose to give my time,talent, and treasure because I know that the people involved value the efforts of its volunteers and work to stretch every dollar donated.
