Review for Auberle, McKeesport, PA, USA
I am a active volunteer and a mentor. It is an amazing experience to open a child's eyes to what they CAN do and thought they couldn't. I engage the 7-14 year old boys in educational games each week - they have fun and learn at the same time. The Annual Spelling Bee allows the boys to participate at their learning level. It is heartfelt to see the way they cheer for each other - even if one boy has to spell "audacious" and another "zoo." Mentoring is a very special thing to be able to do - having a child learn to trust that you come to see him not because you are paid but because you want to. The staff I work with supports and welcomes our volunteer activities - there is always something to do.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing boys succeed in school. For example, a winner of last year's spelling bee at Auberle got the courage to enter the spelling bee at his school - and he came in second!
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
throughly understand it is the personal connections volunteers make with children that more impress them than one-day corporate events.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
working with the kids - having them tell you they are glad are there. One child told me the BEST thing about AUberle was the volunteers
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
interested, effective, and understanding of what the children need. I am always amazed at how well the children behave and the manners they display.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
take in more children, expand programs, provide college tuition.
Ways to make it better...
I always knew I had the support of management.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
keeping volunteers and finding funding.
One thing I'd also say is that...
the children at Auberle are basically the same as any other kids - they respond to kindness and respect.
