I am an architect and have served the Carter School on various occasions for the past 20 years. I have helped with locating and securing needed equipment and building supplies, and helped plan interior renovations to their facility. It would be impossible in this short space to list the innumerable reasons that I admire and support this organization but suffice it to say that their work has the power to realign one's molecules. I often recall my first visit to the school and my encounter with the student population of severely disabled children and young adults and the arduous physical and emotional task of caring for their complex health needs. While I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff and the apparent ease with which they performed their difficult jobs, I was utterly moved by the staff's overt and tireless sense of optimism. The whole place exudes hope and joy. It has been and will continue to be my pleasure to donate my time and resources to the Carter School whenever called upon because the institution and its staff have, over the years, bolstered my faith in humanity. It is truly remarkable how the work of this small non-profit resonates so far beyond the confines of its physical boundaries and institutional mission.
