My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Kids Leadership Coalition Inc Aka SheHeroes.Org, Santa Monica, CA, USA
If you can't see it, you can't be it. When I was growing up, I thought I'll be a doctor. However, I didn't really believe it until my mother introduced me to her female friend who was a doctor, because all the doctors at the time were men. SheHeroes aims to fill that gap by providing free online videos of women at the top of their fields in areas where women are underrepresented. The Executive Director is passionate about helping young women and practically is donating her time. We are a low budget high yield organization.

Review for Silver Ribbon Campaign to TRUST WOMEN with reproductive rights, San Francisco, CA, USA
The Silver Ribbon Campaign to Trust Women is a very low budget but high impact organization. They bring people together and are not proprietary about their work. The Silver Ribbon is very popular with every day people as something to take action and increase visibility. The Campaign has brought together groups that have NEVER done work together before e.g. MoveOn with PFAW, FMF, and other groups that don't usually work together.

Review for Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, San Jose, CA, USA
As a donor, we just wanted signage that said "part of these foods were funded by an Anonymous Taiwanese-American Atheist and Buddhist" They said no. so we are giving our money elsewhere. What is the difference between acknowledging a donation from someone whose name is obviously of an ethnicity and who is known in the area for a certain religion and our request? They said it would be a slippery slope. I said, "I think this is like the journalism standard for pornography? You know it when you see it. and this is not offensive. it's simply a statement of fact."

Review for California Environmental Voters, Oakland, CA, USA
I am impressed with their Asian-American research into what motivates Asian-Americans to vote and to vote green. We had a great discussion that Asian-Americans are green, they just call it "green." They conserve. They recycle, etc.
