Review for Children of Grace, San Francisco, CA, USA
Three Christmases ago, our family was looking for a charity to donate to. We settled on Children of Grace and began sponsoring our first child. Since then we have added two more children to our sponsorship list because we love what Children of Grace is doing and our ability to make a small dent in the poverty experienced by young children affected by AIDS is important to us.
One of my favorite things about COG is how personal the relationship is between donor and organization. This makes it easy to foster a personal relationship with the children we sponsor. We have the opportunity to send them small gifts and to know that those gifts make it into their hands. When teams go to Uganda to run camps, they make a point of hand-delivering gifts to the sponsored children and taking pictures of those kids to send back to us.
In January (2013) one of my friends was in Uganda to help with a camp. She was able to visit each of the children we sponsor and we were even lucky enough to get a chance to Skype with one of them because our timing aligned perfectly. There is nothing better than getting to see (virtually) one of the girls we sponsor and tell her personally that we think of her every single day.
Most organizations I have donated to in the past have not invested that level of commitment to the donor/sponsored child relationship. Children of Grace stands apart because they treat each and every child as though he or she is the most important child in the world.
