Review for Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), Washington, DC, USA
This is an exciting time for this well run and effective non-profit! The issue of climate change is roaring back despite the Current Administration's lack of support for action. EESI is DIRECTLY assisting both Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill to understand the urgency of this issue, the complexity of our challenges and solutions - and helping to show the way to a real and timely path forward. EESI is engaged in bringing the voices of Americans facing the consequences of climate change to speak and meet with policymakers. EESI leadership is one of the leading organizations helping to turn the political tide toward justice and progress.
Review for Clinica Verde, Angwin, CA, USA
Clinica Verde had me the very first time I heard its story. It is an inspiring, on the ground, effective, service provider that is changing lives. I finally got my chance to visit the clinic itself in February 2013 and it is everything we could have hoped, and more. In addition, being there made it so clear why Clinica Verde is such an important effort. Boaco has a huge number of private clinics and doctors but the vast majority of residents in the area have no access to health care at all. Susan Dix Lyons and the Board and the team on the ground are doing extremely important work. If you don't know Clinica Verde go to the website and see the videos. And get involved!

Review for Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI), Washington, DC, USA
I was a Congressional staffer for 20 years and White House staff for 6 years. I grew to respect and support EESI because it is a trusted source of excellent, substantive information on some of the most complex issues of our time. This non-profit makes a unique and necessary contribution to the understanding and problem solving needs of Congress, state and local government, corporations and NGOs. I am glad I can finally give back to EESI through Board service.

Enlarge the audience for their briefing and products. They get excellent reviews from the most improtant players on all sides of every energy and environment issue. Our challenge is to expand their reach and provide their services to more people who will benefit.

Review for Center For Inspired Teaching, Washington, DC, USA
Utilizing a unique and supportive teacher training and professional development model - Center for Inspired Teaching passionately believes that every child has the capacity to learn and thrive and that all teachers can be inspired teachers.
Inquiry based learning - helping children learn HOW to think, not WHAT to think - is the secret sauce for this amazing non-profit.
Come and visit the Center for Inspired Teaching Demonstration Public Charter School at one of our monthly tours and see us in action!
Center for Inspired Teaching is passionately committed to the DC public schools and has worked with hundreds of teachers. We are now working with the entire DC school system through a partnership that will empower and train DC's social studies teachers in the Common Core Standards as well as create the first ever social studies curriculum written by DCPS teachers.
In Baltimore, Center for Inspired teaching brought the Common Core Standards to middle school math teachers and are working with teacher leaders to help Baltimore transform the pratice of all of its math teachers. The results are already apparent in the classroom and in the enthusiastic endorsement of teachers.
Empowering, mentoring and strengthening teachers and the experience for students is the core of what we do and the results for both teachers and students are mind bending.
Get involved! Visit our website. Tour our school. Sign up for training (whether you're a life long teacher seeking to re energize your career or a person contemplating entering the field for the first time).
And of course - CONTRIBUTE! We're growing and need every extra dollar.
We are a 4-star charity as measured by Charity Navigator - so you know your money will be well managed and well spent.
