Review for Elephant Sanctuary, Hohenwald, TN, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was aware of this group since I live in the area, but am also gratified that they have the top rating from Charity Navigator for accountability, transparency, and financial management. They are also accredited by the Global Federatin of Animal Sanctuaries. Their primary mission is providing a caring, free-range environment for elephants who had lived lives of confinement or performing, and as such they are not open for public display or tours. They also perform a valuable educational mission about elephants and the threats to their survival both in captivity and in the wild.

Review for Wildlife Conservation Network, Inc., San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

This organization funnels money to selected affiliates involved with protecting specific endangered animals. I became aware of them in connection with Save The Elephants, a UK-based organization fighting poaching in Africa. Save The Elephants' website advises that donations from Americans can be made to Wildlife Conservation Network via the Network For Good website, and that "Elephants" should be filled in on the "Designation" field on the website donation form. My rating for them is based mostly on my knowledge about Save The Elephants, plus Charity Navigator's 4-star rating (as of this date). I have had no personal interaction with either organization. I made a small donation for now and will base future support on my future interaction with them.

Review for Wildlife Conservation Society, Bronx, NY, USA

Rating: 4 stars

I only just became aware of this organization in the context of an article in the New York Times mentioning their support of efforts to set up community ranger squads to fight animal poaching in Africa. On further research I see they have an excellent rating with Charity Navigator (4 stars as of this writing), so I have decided to support it with a small donation. I have had not personal contact with the organization so cannot offer any comments on how they engage with donors or provide feedback on their efforts, but have to assume they are effective as demonstrated in their Charity Navigator rating, hence my review score of "exceeds expectations." My future support will be contingent on what sort of feedback I get from them regarding their programs.
