I have traveled to Rwanda and Tanzania two times with Humanity for Children. My first trip in 2011 was with a group of four students from Westminster College in Fulton along with two other adults. The second journey was a “Women to Women” trip in January of 2018 with the mission of connecting with women and children in various villages and associations. In both cases, I experienced an intimate and powerful interaction with the joyful people of East Africa. There was singing and dancing, reporting of progress on projects, and sharing of our needs as women raising families.
Because of the language barrier, we had an interpreter with us at all times. This person not only helped with the language, but also gave us critical information about customs and about the projects (Bright Light, Craft Association sewing machines, livestock projects, etc.). Our guides quickly became our good friends and teachers. HfC prepared us before the trip and that preparation continued on the ground through our guides and the people we met.
The Humanity for Children organization LIVES its mission of respect for the culture and support for sustainable projects. Volunteers run the organization with only a few paid staff in the African villages to oversee the ongoing projects. Humanity for Children is a small organization with a big heart for helping children in East Africa. It is truly making a difference!

When you hear the words "life changing", it is difficult to imagine what it really means. For me, it occurred on my Humanity for Children trip to Africa. To intimately interact with children, mothers and community leaders left me feeling differently about all things and yet struck by how much all people want the same things - stability, good food, education, dignity and joy. Humanity for Children impacts thousands of lives with improved health, education and appreciation for other cultures. I cannot thank HFC enough for allowing me to travel to Rwanda and Tanzania with a committed group of volunteers with big hearts and infectious humor. Thanks for changing my life - for the better.
