Review for StandUp for Kids, Decatur, GA, USA
I have been the volunteer Executive Director of the Chicago program for 3 1/2 years. In June of 2009 three of us began street outreach one evening each week. Today we have 35 volunteers, ranging from high school seniors to grandparents. We recently opened our own center for drop-in hours three evenings each week, yet we continue our street outreach efforts two evenings each week as well. In our center we offer a safe and warm environment where homeless youth can have a hot meal, watch a movie, play cards, sleep or just chill. We also provide apparel basics (socks, underwear, t-shirts, mittens, hats and sweatshirts) to those who need them. After a successful drive through which we received over 500 coats, we now can make sure that all our kids will have a warm coat for the winter. In spite of our growth, we continue to need additional volunteers and contributions of food and clothing. Please contact us us if you can help. Thanks so much
