Review for The BOMA Project, Manchester Center, VT, USA
I was Chair of the Kenya BOMA NGO board and member of the US board from 2015 to 2019. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of a very competent team and playing a role in helping BOMA continue the incredible work it does in Northern Kenya.
Hailing from Northern Kenya myself, I have witnessed first-hand how transformative BOMA's poverty graduation program has been to the women it serves. I have relatives and other women I know who have benefited from the program and are now able to feed their families, take their kids to school, pay for their medical bills and lend a helping hand to a needy neighbor etc. etc.
The Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) which comes with seed capital, business skills trainings and savings trainings provides for an all-rounded approach that creates a business model with proven success.
Women in Northern Kenya are one of the most hard-working but massively burdened by prevailing property. Most of them are breadwinners but with no means. BOMA has stepped in to provide them with a means to alleviate the burden of poverty. Smiles are back to their beautiful faces.
Crucially, BOMA also has a strong and stable workforce, from their vast network of mentors to the very competent senior management team led by the Executive Director.
With its rural economic empowerments program, BOMA is well placed to continue being relevant and thriving in the ever-changing humanitarian landscape, because BOMA is serving the most need and most marginalized populations of Northern Kenya.
Review for The BOMA Project, Manchester Center, VT, USA
I am a native of the BOMA project's areas of intervention and I'm fortunate in that on several ocassions, I have been able to personally interact with employees and beneficiaries of the BOMA Project in the course of implementing their activities. I must say that BOMA's business set-up model in upper-eastern Kenya is continuing to have a stong and lasting impact in the lives of the pastoralist and semi-pastoralist comminuties they target. There are many success stories where families' living standards have been improved as a result of the BOMA project's intervention thereby enabling them afford not only basic needs as food and clothing, but also medical and educational needs for their families. With increased financial resources available to the BOMA Project, I am confident that the lives of more and more pastoralist communities of upper-eastern Kenya will continue to be transformed.
