Review for The Humane Society of McCormick County, McCormick, SC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

We had specific needs when adopting a cat. We needed a cat that was "dog savvy," as we have, and also foster, high prey drive dogs. We also have a doggie door so needed an individual confident and bonded enough to be an indoor/outdoor cat. Obviously not an easily found cat, so we waited and hoped, and then we got a call back from HSMC. They had a not to easily placed young adult cat because she didn't like other cats, but loved dogs. She also was very dominant in nature and not easily handled. She had what I now know is called a Tortitude. Long story short, Miss Kitty, was a perfect match for us! She loves our dogs and is a social member of their pack. She also gave herself a job which is teaching our foster dogs proper manners around cats, a job she thoroughly enjoys, lol. We were concerned there might not be a cat that could fit in our family, but thanks to the experienced volunteers at HSMC, we are thrilled with our Miss Kitty, and she with us :)

In an economically challenged rural county in SC with no city or county aid for the homeless, neglected, and abused animals, this group of dedicated volunteers do an amazing job! With a network of foster homes and small, limited, outdoor, but well maintained, shelter facility, this society manages to be a no kill organization and provide low fee spay/neutering as well as adoption opportunities. For anyone who has been involved in rescue for any period of time, it is apparent that those accomplishments are outstanding as they stand, but they have even larger goals. HSMC has also managed to acquire land and is working toward the construction of a shelter with indoor facilities, additional exercise areas, and much more. When supporting this group you can count on your monies and time being well spent and well managed. I live in a neighboring county and have done only a little volunteering for this organization, but I have many years of experience with rescue efforts, and these people are exceptional in their efforts.
