Review for Mojave Environmental Education Consortium, Victorville, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As a retired principal, I remember the essay and other contests available through MEEC. Many of our students won and were featured in the Daily Press. Teachers availed themselves of the many free and low-cost workshops that offered free curriculum guides. I'm glad MEEC continues to offer many opportunities for students and teachers in the high desert.

Review for California Writers Club, Apple Valley, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The California Writers Club, High Desert Branch helps writers of all levels to succeed. When I joined in 2009, they were about to lose their charter because they had fallen to under 15 members. But from an ad in the local paper that drew in people, we now, in the beginning of 2016, have over 100 members. We have many critique groups, and excellent speakers from all over the world (Anne Perry, Hank Saroyan) speak at regular monthly meetings. The club has published a book on Jack London, worked with a local high school to collect community memoirs and make high schoolers published writers, taught classes at the near-by federal prison, participated 3 times on World Book Night (April 23) and started a "Literary Ambassador" program. I could go on and on, but the world will be hearing more from high desert writers.

When I was the principal of Victoria Magathan Elementary in the Adelanto School District, I always advertised your contests and opportunities to the students and teachers. I was so proud when my students won essay and other contests and were awarded with certificates and ceremonies and were featured in the Daily Press. Your end of the year dinner honoring outstanding teachers (one of mine) was also inspirational. I love how you work in tandem with the schools and districts to educate students, teachers, and administrators on the environment. My hat is off to you! Dr. Mary Thompson
