Review for National Anti-Vivisection Society, Chicago, IL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I can tell you first hand that without the National Anti-Vivisection Society, there would be a LOT of family pets and other dogs/cats whose lives would have ended full of pain, suffering & misery. They have helped our Organization on many occasions with grants to help families who would have lost their loved pets to death, if not for those grants, we'd have no way to help them. Recently the owner of a rescued 4 year old pit bull asked for our help. This poor baby had all of his teeth ground down and had savage scars all over his body - he had been a "lead dog" or "Bait dog" in pit bull fights, yet Ghost has the gentlest nature I have ever seen. His first 4 years having been lived in misery, Ghost was rescued just hours before he was scheduled to be destroyed by a county shelter in Kentucky. A wonderful woman rescued him to live out his final years in peace, happiness & love only to find out that he was riddled with huge tumors. Dawn rescued him anyways, taking it on faith that she was meant to do so and that she would find help for him. She did. We stepped in and with the help from NAVS...Ghost now has a few more years to live his life knowing what it is to be loved. Knowing what a fantastic, one of a kind dog that Ghost is - even from the bottom of my soul, I can't thank them enough for helping to save Ghost. Sometimes, there just ARE no words.

Review for Shadow Cats Rescue, Round Rock, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Shadow Cats is amazing. One time we were helping a cat that had been attacked and mauled by a neighbors dog. The owner couldn't afford the emergency vet cost's and was in danger of having to put their cat down to end her pain because they couldn't afford the surgeries she needed. We put the word out, asking for donations to help cover the expenses....Shadow Cats saw our post and without hesitation, stepped in to help. They literally came to our rescue and raised enough funding, quickly enough to where we were able to pay the vet to perform the needed surgeries to save Sissy's life. They are an awesome Organization and beyond any doubt, deserve a five star rating.

I run a small Non-profit involved in animal welfare. Mostly family pets, but we also take in abandoned cats & dogs. Because of the way I was raised (very strict, very old fashioned, moral codes!) I really HATE to ask for assistance, even in the form of a grant to help animals. I have a wonderful group of volunteers and we are ordinarily great at working to raise the funding we need, but there are always situations where we can get overwhelmed. Each time that has happened, I was able to approach Navs about a grant with the utter confidence that if they could at all possibly help - they would. I honestly wish there was a 10 star rating for the National Anti-Vivisection Society, not only for all the great work which they accomplish on a daily basis, making a HUGE difference in the animal world, but simply for their compassion, their efficiency, their caring and their rock solid dedication to helping other animal organizations, such as mine. Thankfully, after working in the animal rescue world for 9 years, I am able to say that there are many other organizations that I admire and have utter, complete respect for....and Navs is, beyond any doubt, at the top of my list. If you aren't familiar with all that they do, go to their website - you will be impressed. They absolutely deserve their 5 star rating.

Just 3 weeks ago, we were able to reunite 2 dogs with their family. They'd been separated for 8 months by a foreclosure. Thank to Navs, We were able to step in to help them when we were told of their story. We were able to pay for their dogs vetting and for the 8 months in Boarding where their family came to visit them almost every day of the week. Too many families to count are losing their homes - and being forced to give up their family pets, many of whom are senior dogs or cats and they generally don't do well in a shelter. Many foreclosure pets end up being euthanized as "unadoptable" because they are grieving the loss of their home & families. It's a tragic situation all the way around and we are so very thankful for Navs for giving us the opportunity to help this family. Without their help via a grant - we simply couldn't have helped this family.

I run a small Non-profit in Illinois and Navs has come to my rescue on 3 different occasions. Each was pretty much an emergency situation where had I not gotten the help I needed so quickly, Families with pets and rescued dog/cats would have suffered. I love the fact that for being so successful, Navs still is very hands on and approachable. I felt, when dealing with Jamie Aitchison, that I was talking with someone I'd known for years and definitely talking with someone who not only cared about the animals but understood all that was involved. I can say firsthand, that NAVS is both efficient and compassionate. They are a strong organization and do their homework as far as grants go - they will never spend the money that is donated to them to help other's foolishly or take for granted the money that is donated to them. This is definitely a place I would be safe and satisfied giving my money to, knowing that they do so very much to help so many in need.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I'm really happy to say that I can't think of a single change I'd make.
