My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Unbound, Kansas City, KS, USA
I've been a donor for 15 years. They are absolutely first rate. Their blog postings are thoughtful and respectful of both the role of the donors and the role of the recipients. They understand the ramifications of the ministry to both. I have supported several people over the years and appreciate the fact that I can support a college student and an elderly person. It isn't all about cute kids that tug at your heartstrings and open your wallet. It is about developing a relationship over years where both parties learn and grow from each other. I believe my recipients have done far more for me than I have done for them.
When my student graduates in December with a reasonable shot at having a career as a medical professional rather than a lifetime struggling with poverty as a temporary laborer or a vendor, I will be comfortable that I made things truly better for my student and the extended family.
Review for Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, El Paso, TX, USA
This organization provides legal assistance for people caught up in immigration problems. They work with battered women, unaccompanied minors, and people who are being deported, or seeking asylum. I personally cannot imagine being a child alone in jail awaiting deportation and being expected to testify on my own behalf in a legal hearing in a language I did not know. Las Americas can provide legal advice for such a situation. I am aware that they helped a US citizen high school student who had been mistakenly jailed and was being deported.
The work they do is very specific and very badly needed. They have helped people from all over the world.

Review for Free the Kids Inc, Greensboro, NC, USA
I have been supporting this charity for over ten years. I love the website which gives real, believable and current information about what is going on at the charity and in the neighborhood in Haiti where it is located. From information about specific kids and health conditions, to medical intern's encounters with the corrupt hospital system in Haiti to what happened during the earthquake and in the weeks that followed, I always feel like it is respectful and honest, and a realistic insight into what is happening on the ground in Les Cayes. I feel like I can trust these people with my money, and that they are doing demonstrable good.
