Review for Phoenix Women's Chorus, Phoenix, AZ, USA
After 7 years of working in the non-profit sector I became involved on the board of Arizona Women in Tune (AZWIT). Serving on this board was life-changing and taught me more professionally than all of my paid experience in the field. I also performed with this group for a handful of years. AZWIT provides a strong feminist and activist voice (using music) to affect cultural changes in areas such as LGBT rights, women's rights, women's health, race and class. It also provides a welcoming and educational setting for all those who self identify as women (be they Lesbian, "straight" or Transgendered). Many times, this is the only supportive setting that these women have. AZWIT offers not only a musical experience to it's audience but also a mechanism for Social Justice and Human Rights. It also just happens to be a ton of fun! I donate to this non-profit because it changed my life for the better and I know it does the same for everyone who crosses it's path. What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?
AZWIT was extremely and adversely effected by the continual cuts in arts funding. AZWIT addresses the constant inequality experienced by the LGBT community and women, internationally.
Why did you make your donation at this time?
AZWIT continues to receive less arts funding every year, through no fault of their own.
What would you tell others about this organization?
AZWIT is a worthwhile investment of your money and time. You can support them by donating your money, time and voice. They are also a wonderful women's empowerment non-profit. The staff and singers are delightful. The performances are fun and thought-provoking.
