Review for Organization for Autism Research, Arlington, VA, USA
I first encountered the Organization for Autism Research as part of the Houston Marathon's Run for a Reason program in 2008. It was my first marathon and I had already secured entry, but I wanted the experience to be memorable for other reasons. I wanted to know that as each mile ticked off I was doing something to help families dealing with Autism. My son has a form of Autism called Aspergers and it will be with us for the remainder of our lives. OAR is dedicated to researching methods of intervention that will help the millions of families living with this challenge deal with and overcome Autism's impact. As a fund raiser, for OAR, I have been impressed with the commitment shown by the organization to secure funding for this necessary research. The staff works tirelessly to encourage our fundraising activities and ensure we have successful events. This year I've partnered with OAR for two events and even though I'm not a prolific fundraiser, they treat me as if I'm the only fundraiser. I really appreciate their support and encouragement through all the training miles and race day anxiety.
