Review for RRUFF Rocklin Residents Unite For Fido, Rocklin, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is a non-profit that was responsible for getting the city to put in a dog park. They had to agree to maintain the dog park after it was installed. They have done so for 8 years now. This non-profit also obtains funds to sponsor a, 'Healing Heroes' program that provides service dog training for disabled veterans and first responders. The dog park is well kept by this group, and dog training takes place at the dog park's, Special Needs enclosure.

Great dog park, great administration.

My name is Mike. I am a disabled veteran. In 2010 I needed to get a service dog trained to assist me with a Traumatic Brain Injury. I was able to get a white Standard Poodle, named Cappy, through the outreach of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Fair Oaks CA. This dog and I then trained for 3 years. He became a guide dog that assisted me with vision, hearing, mobility and balance for the next 5 years. Wherever I went, he went. He gave unconditionally, and never complained, or said, 'No'. He was the best buddy a guy could have.

Yesterday I took him to the Veterinary Clinic, where I held his paw while he was put down. It was the hardest emotional experience I have had. While I believe that energy cannot be destroyed, that it is eternal, and that includes life energy, I miss it being in his body. I believe that the body is temporary, and only holds the life energy to allow for communication. Cappy left his temporary body and has moved over the Rainbow Bridge. He is free of the pain and the limitations that overcame him, but still I miss him.

The RRUFF Healing Heroes held a, 'Say Goodbye to Cappy' event on Saturday. A lot of his friends and their dogs showed up. This included Scully, from when he and Cappy were in the 'Love on a Leash' therapy dog group visiting seniors in assisted care facilities, to his last brother, Hans. I cannot say enough about the support we received from this group.

Cappy you a free. I love you. Find your brother Ryker and the 2 of you run with the wind.

Review for Four Paws To Freedom, Rancho Cordova, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I am a disabled veteran with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), resulting with my being blind and deaf on my left side, damage to the left side of the brain stem, and loss of the left lateral portion of the cerebellum. Disabilities were with vision, hearing, mobility and balance. I trained with the veterans the Master Trainer of this non-profit trained for 3 years. She is very good, and the service dog I got was as good as the Guide Dog I now have that was trained by a National Guide Dog Foundation. Today I still help this non-profit help disabled veterans be provided a service dog. I know how priceless that gift really is.

I am an USAF veteran from the 1960's. I have a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). I was provided a service dog almost 9 years ago to assist me with vision, hearing, mobility and balance disabilities. I did a lot of training with my dog from the day the 'Special Needs area' at the Rocklin Dog Park came into being. Rocklin Residents Unite For Fido (RRUFF) has been at the front of having the city create the dog park, maintain the dog park, fund the dog park, and build the 'Special Needs Area' at the dog park, where Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Canine Companions for Independence also train their dogs. To have a separate and effective place to train a service dog is as priceless as having a service dog. RRUFF also provided an agility training area in the dog park. My service dog needs to get to me if I fall and can't get up. This helps train him in that ability. This is one non-profit organization that for sure does what they say they will do, and they do it, 'One veteran, and one dog at a time'.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I see no changes needed, There are no salaries and 100% of donations go to administrative costs and training costs for providing service dogs for veterans.

I am a disabled USAF veteran from the 1960's. I have a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that results in disabilities affecting vision, hearing, mobility and balance. I used a cane for 30 years, until my shoulder was failing due to the use, and the VA Physical Therapy could not help. I fell perhaps 2, to 3 times a week. The predecessor to Four Paws to Freedom, Four-Paws For Vets, and the same Master Trainer provided me and a service dog training that enabled the dog to assist me with all those disabilities. I can truly say that such a gift is priceless. It restores a freedom lost in the service to my country.

Review for Operation Freedoms Paws, Gilroy, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

I am a disabled veteran with a service dog that did a little training at Operation Freedom Paws. Their program was very similar to the program where I obtained my service dog from, only bigger in scope. My dog and I had no problem blending in with the Operation Freedom Dog training routine. There were over two dozen dogs and handlers in training and the program went very smoothly. The only down size was just that size ... more space would sure be a benefit to a program that provides priceless support and encouragement to disabled veterans.

I am a disabled veteran. I have vision, hearing, mobility, and balance issues as a result of my military service. The VA physical therapist indicated that I needed the cane for mobility, but using it was destroying my shoulder and there was nothing she could do to prevent that. I was very fortunate to obtain a service dog to replace the cane. Not only did the service dog ameliorate the slowly disintegrating shoulder, but the service dog learned to assist me with my blind and deaf left side and damaged cerebellum. In other words, the service dog helped restore a quality of like I lost 30 years ago as a result of my military service. This program is A+ and truly benefits America's veterans.
