Review for Asha for Education, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I first came to Asha for Education, Seattle in 2005. At that time, I did not understand anything about wholistic education. I did not know how vast India's educational problems were. I was highly suspicious of charitable organizations. Asha was like a mana from heaven. It is a zero-overhead organization (perhaps not legally), but in principle. When I print receipts for donors (I volunteer for the finance team at the Seattle chapter), I pay for the stamps myself. When we collaborate to bring speakers in from India, we all contribute for the expenses of the trip. This principle of zero-overhead is the most important aspect for me. I also found that the people at Asha were genuinely interested in the work we did. We did not want to just pay lip service to the ideal of education, but were willing to educate ourselves and go deeper in the reality of the situation. I am both a volunteer and a donor. Thank you, Saurabh

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

in my own life. The direction of my own life has changed as a result of the deep and meaningful experiences that have helped me understand my own life better.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I am already doing what I can. the technical talent in the community that associates most strongly is immense and yet we do not have enough people to work on technology.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the people are genuine, humble and really dedicated.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Outstanding people, achievers in every field, people of solid substance, the kind who would leave you with a sense of hope - the world is really not such a bad place :)

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Money is not important, it flows like water when our hearts are sincere and our purpose is clear. What we really need are more dedicated people who can spend the little money we have wisely.

Ways to make it better...

If more people understood the organization and did their bit for the world :).

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

collaboration. we are a free organization, with low overhead and no heirarchy ... and this makes collaboration difficult. We can solve at least some of these with technology if enough dedicated people join us :)

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
