Review for Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue Society Ltd, Mount Airy, MD, USA
Gentle Giants is by far one of the best organizations I've seen, especially in terms of the level of care and concern they show for the horses. Everyone who works for and volunteers for this rescue genuinely cares about every horse that comes through their gates. They show this is many ways such as making sure the horses presently in the rescue receive the best care, that horses are matched with the right adopters, the fact that if an adopted horse cannot be kept it has to come back to the rescue, and making sure every horse gets the best chance possible. I know this because we came to the rescue in December of 2011 and fell in love with an adorable Belgian mare. The president met with us, made sure we interacted well with the mare on the ground, made sure our riding abilities matched her needs, and spent time talking with us about the rescue, the adoption process, and what to expect. This mare had an injury that in many cases could well have been fatal, but they worked incredibly hard to give her a shot. We took her home in June of 2012 and she is perfectly healthy. During these 6-7 months, we were able to visit the rescue numerous time to visit our mare, help out with chores, learn more about drafts, and get to know the wonderful people who run the organization. We intend to keep volunteering with the rescue for many reasons, but one of the main ones is their incredible energy and determination they have in saving these horses. Also - in terms of them getting a new property, it was to benefit the many, many horses they care for. Anyone who loves horses would be incredibly happy that they were able to attain a good home for the horses in their care.
