Review for The Humane Society of the United States, Washington, DC, USA
I appreciate the work HSUS does to help ALL animals and to tackle systemic forms of animal abuse that local animal shelters simply aren't able to address. I volunteer for my local shelter and I have personally worked alongside HSUS volunteers in direct rescues of animals from hoarding situations and puppy mills. They also rescue dogs and roosters from fighting rings and operate several animal sanctuaries. Those who say that HSUS does nothing for homeless animals are just spouting off the talking points crafted by anti-animal faux-charities (The Center for Consumer Freedom and Humane Society for Shelter Pets) funded by industries that profit from animal exploitation. These front groups are the work of Rick Berman, the same terrible human being who has attacked other legitimate charities like Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The industries that fund his fake charities would prefer that you only donate to your local shelter because that means they will never have to change their abusive business practices. The more they step up their attacks on HSUS, the more I know that HSUS is making important gains for animals. I will continue to support BOTH my local shelter and HSUS because I know they both help animals in different but equally important ways.
