Review for International Association Of Lions Clubs, Brisbane, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Founded in 1948 with the International motto: " WE SERVE", the Brisbane Lions Club has responded to community needs by providing, ideas, energy, labor, and fundraising donations to a wide variety of projects generally aimed at situations where other funding is not available, or is inadequate. We also sponsor events that contribute to the community feel and spirit of our town: Christmas Star (home decorations) Awards, Christmas Tree sales, Senior Christmas Luncheon, Operation Santa Claus Christmas Day gift deliveries, Easte Egg Hunt, and Pumpkin patch. As a member of LIONS International, one of the largest service NGO's in the world, a portion of our member's dues also funds major international relief efforts. All funds donated to our local club are spent 100% on the cause for which they are given. Our fundraisers are always cost effective: with 100% of profits going to fund community projects. Most recently, our largest single area of funding is to education and Scholars Awards. If you are interested in donating the our Brisbane Lions Charities, Inc. 501.c.3, please contact us for more information. If you are a Brisbane resident, and are interested in joining our club, pleaes contact any member to learn more about that invitacion process.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Seeing a vacant lot become a community park. Knowing that people in need are being fed each month with our support. Knowing people who had no medical insurance got eye surgery from the Lions Eye Foundation. Knowing we helped our school principal and PTO produce a fundraiser that generated enough money to preserve teachers' jobs, and student's programs (3 years). There's always something new.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

want it to think bigger, plan better, and have even more fund !

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Work hard, play hard, don't waste my time with unproductive boring meetings.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Lots of new friends. And much more patience.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Very proud to see the high quality of character and achievement being demonstated by a wide variety of students from a small working class town with public schools struggling to maintain high standards, and provide the additional programs that challenge and inspire students.

Role:  Volunteer & Served on Scholastic Achievement Awards Committee.
