Review for Wisconsin Demolay Foundation, Milwaukee, WI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My sons have been involved with DeMolay in West Bend, WI as members (from ages 12 to 21) of this organization. When young men are given the chance to make a difference, and offered positive reinforcement for "doing good things" it DOES matter to them. Their advisors always respected them, encouraged them, and helped them to do more as leaders of the group. As a capstone to their involvement (after learning leadership, speaking and organizational skills as participants) each boy earned scholarships for college. The scholarships are generous, and the experience that they gained from being involved with DeMolay has helped them to become more responsible, professional, effective adults. I would encourage parents to have their sons look at the DeMolay program - in Wisconsin or any community across the country.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being a parent of members since 2006, and being an advisor since 2007. This organization offers many opportunities for young men to grow into fine young adults - and it fosters leadership, organizational, planning and public speaking skills. My sons have had the opportunity to travel, make new friends, give to charity, and make personal strides in their own lives. One of them served as a state officer, and others served at the local level. Each earned scholarships from Wisconsin DeMolay.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to get more young men involved! More people need to learn about DeMolay.

2012

How did you find this group?

I was referred by a family member.

What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?

I contribute more time to help young men (teen boys) to get involved in positive situations. I guide young men in decision making, event planning, community service, charity work, fund raising, and personal growth. Prior to being involved with DeMolay, other people's kids were other people's - not mine. Now, every young man matters, and I encourage them to try DeMolay and gain from the experiences that it offers. I find myself involved because of the good things that DeMolay has done for my sons - and for the opportunity it continues to offer to others. It amazes me that even years after I have helped a young man, that he will stop me on the street to "just say Hi" - remembering how I helped them in their years with DeMolay.

Role:  Client Served & I was a parent - now I am a volunteer to DeMolay in Wisconsin.
