My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for ChildFund International, Richmond, VA, USA
Last November I contacted Child Fund to ask them about the 20% fee that was going to be imposed on my Christmas gift to my sponsored child. I was told that the fee was still in place and should be modified after the first of the year. After a fund raing event I worked on locally, it reminded me that I should follow up on the issue. When I contacted Child Fund I was once again told it was being reviewed and since they are only customer service people they had no information that involved fees. How convenient. Run, don't walk away from this organization. It is so upsetting that a CEO who makes hundeds of thousands a year on our sympathy towards the less fotunate and wants to better their live, feels she deserves a piece of every one of them. WITCH! I can only hope you die from a slow painful cancer!

I did want to reply to your concerns and we understand how you feel. ChildFund has been working diligently to find the best way to cover the costs of administering your special monetary gifts to children without compromising the quality of services provided by sponsorship funds and without putting an unnecessary burden on our sponsors. Many of our sponsors have indicated a preference for a flat rate donation, rather than the percentage we have been charging. Therefore, beginning this summer, ChildFund will return to charging a flat fee for processing cash gifts: $3.50. Going forward, 100% of the funds you send for your sponsored child will go directly to your sponsored child. The $3.50 will be added to the total amount of your gift
Thank you for your comment. We heard from hundreds of sponsors who expressed their preference for a small donation to cover the cost of processing and delivering rather than 20% of the total gift. Based on those recommendations, ChildFund changed its policy in July 2012. Now, 100 percent of the gift amount goes to the sponsored child. We ask for a voluntary donation of $3.50 to cover handling and delivery costs.
