Review for Asha for Education, Los Angeles, CA, USA
I am currently stewarding a project under Asha for Education for a tribal community in India. Having witnessed functioning of "Asha for Education" as an insider I am convinced and impressed by the transparency and effectiveness of the organization. "Asha for Education" is 100% volunteer driven non-hierarchical,organization. In the process Asha brings a social awareness within the community.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
stewarding a tribal schools in south India. The tribal units are marginalized community who do not have access to health, food and education from the Govt. Asha has taken active efforts to bring about change in 10 of such villages.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
like to spend some money in advertising.Presently it is a zero overhead organization where 100% of money collected is disbursed.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Very passionate about bringing a socio economic change in India through education.Since most of the volunteers in Asha are expatriates who have been successful in life because of education, they are totally compassionate for the cause.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Bring a radical change in India with its reach at the grass root level. The organization has projects all over India from Kashmir to Kerala, Maharashtra to Assam. One of the restricting barrier for the organization is funds.
Ways to make it better...
Asha for Education has more visibility with the Govt of India. An article in one of the major newspapers or a 15 min documentary in one of the TV channels would be a tremendous help to have a long term sustenance for these tribal villages
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Floating volunteers. Though the organization has more than 1500 volunteers at any given time active volunteers are just a minor percentage at a given time.
