Review for Bhumi, Chennai, , India

Rating: 5 stars

As a Teach India volunteer, I thought, teaching under-privileged children was a step towards fighting to make this country better(through education). But as a Bhumi volunteer, I discovered numerous other ways to do so. Education, undebatably, remains the first step towards making a better India. But here in Bhumi,we have other issues of concerns too, like environment, computer knowledge, community development. And Bhumi is constantly working towards these and the success stories will be heard through every proud Bhumian. Bhumi, as a family, has two wings. One is the volunteers and the other is the receiving end like the children. Each and every volunteer in Bhumi has joined, bearing in mind specific ideas, big or small. No heirachy appears among the volunteers and every volunteer gets to contribute even in the most trivial of matters. The Bhumi family has created such a transparent environment for everyone, that it is pure joy to work with them. Every single volunteer, be it anyone, is very down to earth, despite the pride we possess as Bhumians. I have seldom seen any network with zero politics. Bhumi is it! Joining Bhumi was the most clear decision I have taken. The other wing, is the main one. Our very own children and our environment. They are the VIPs of Bhumi. All our hardwork goes into them and they have never failed to recognize that. The knowledge we received during our childhood is polished and being transfered to them with hopes that they become more than what we are today. And any weekend, if you see people toiling under the hot sun,in the kotturpuram park, take a little time and say Hi BHUMIAN to them.I cant promise about India, but Chennai seems a better place with BHUMI! Heres to all the BHUMIANS who have made BHUMI possible.CHEERS!!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the face of the kids i teach every weekend.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting new and like minded people and the happiness given and received.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly and true Indian citizens. All with the same amount of zeal and zest towards making education reach every mind.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Spend it all on the kids. We dont need money to do what we do. We need the right spirit.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
