Review for West Los Angeles College Foundation, Culver City, CA, USA
I volunteered to read scholarship applications and was so awed by the personal stories of students at West LA. So many are juggling responsibilities of parenthood, dealing with past traumas, being the first in their families to go to college and getting an education all at once. The foundation focuses on the whole student and finding ways to make school doable. That includes everything from responding to emergencies and providing food and clothing to improving facilities and proving scholarships for books. I never realized the level of need or what an essential role community colleges play in breaking the cycle of poverty until I started donating and volunteering. Truly money well spent.
Review for LimmudLA, Los Angeles, CA, USA
I went to Conference two years ago (the first one) not knowing anything about the organization. I was also a little jaded in my own practice of Judaism. I finished the weekend re-energized and just blown away by the range and depth of offerings. I went to session after session on everything from Israeli film to art to leadership skills, all set within a Jewish context. People were warm and open and it was by far a more diverse crowd than any I'd ever experienced. And the amazing thing is it is all volunteer!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I learned a lot of skills and have gotten great exposure to what is happening in the Jewish world. I've personally learned a lot and now have a wider range of friends too.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Being part of an organization with no agenda other than creating learning opportunities for all kinds of people. Pulling off something so major as conference is really rewarding.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
We're all volunteer and people come from a wide range of backgrounds. We have 20 something, single people, 50 year olds and every denomination is represented too.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
We would share it with other organizations in the community who were also devoted to multicultural, pluralistic learning. We would fly the most amazing presenters in from all over the world and offer bigger scholarships.
