Review for Animal Park at the Conservators Center, Burlington, NC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was an intern during the summer months of 2011. I was very impressed with how organized the Conservators' Center was/is. I interned for 6 weeks and really got to see all of the work it takes to run this facility. I saw firsthand how dedicated the workers are to well-being of the animals, donors, volunteers, and visitors of the center. This center is full of love for the animals. During my time there, always recycled and only threw away what we absolutely could not reuse. This center is very green-friendly.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my every day life. I receive their newsletter and see how they have put their hard work and donations to use by building a new tour center that also serves as an education center, where they teach classes to people about wildlife conservation.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Wish they receive more donations to help with all of the costs of things the precious animals require!

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

My experience had a profound effect on me. I received insight on how non-profit organizations work, through bad times and good, and experienced firsthand how much volunteers do to help the facility. I became emotionally attached to several of the animals, and I believe I truly helped make a difference in some of their lives. When I revisit the Conservators' Center this summer, I will see the effort my fellow interns and I put forth to improve the well-being of a certain New Guinea Singing Dog.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

My experience made me feel humble about the hard work I did. I was in the blistering heat 40 hours a week and really felt useful to the animals and the staff at the center. I developed a new found respect for the staff and all the hard work they put in every day, not just 5 days a week like I did. I will never forget my experience at The Conservators' Center.

Role:  Volunteer & I worked as an intern to help prepare food for the animals, clean the enclosures, ensure each enclosure was safe for the animal to return to, and helped build a new enclosure for a New Guinea Singing Dog, and helped work on the new tour building.
