Review for Jewish World Watch, Encino, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I think Jewish World Watch is the most amazing Jewish organization that I have ever had the privelege of working with. Jewish World Watch has mobilized thousands of Jews and non-Jews on a grass roots basis to take responsibility to fight against genocide and other egregious violatoins of human rights, no matter who the victims are. Since the holocaust, Jews have asked how the world could have been so silent while 6 million of our people were murdered. Given our disappointment with the world's response to Hitler's evil, we now must set the example and the standard of how decent, caring human beings should respond to evil in the world. We have raised the awareness of tens of thousands of people to the genocide in Darfur, and we have mobilized the Jewish community of Southern California to build political will against genocide. We have also provided millions of dollars of relief to the refugees in the camps. Now we are beginning to mobilize about the horrors that are taking place in Congo. This organization brings the lessons of the Torah to life. I am proud to have co-founded Jewish World Watch with the great Rabbi Harold Schulweis, and am proud every day of my life to be engaged in this holy work and to motivate others to engage with us!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

visiting the Darfuri reguee camps and seeing the difference that our JWW projects made in the daily life of Darfuri refugees. From vegetable gardens, to solar cooking to medical clinics and beyond, we have made a huge impact and I saw it with my own eyes

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

mobilizing the southern California Jewish community and beyond to fight the genocide in Darfur. Before our formation, no one in LA had any awareness of this tragedy, and now the entire community is mobilized. That is extremely gratifying.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

completely amazing. WIth almsot all of the synagogues in LA, Orange and Ventura counties being members of JWW, I have met a wide array of rabbis and lay leaders--orth,conserv. and reform. They are amazing people and I am enriched by these relationships.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

organize other communities the way we have organized the greater LA area, thereby enlarging the Jewish commitment to the anti-genocide movement in this country. And, we could provide relief to many more thousands of genocide survivors.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
