Review for Moishe House, Encinitas, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

What a pleasure it has been to be affiliated with such a dynamic foundation as the Moishe House. For many years now, I have watched as this group of inspired and dedicated Jewish leaders has taken the organization from a modest composite of Jewish houses across America, into the transnational synergistic Jewish powerhouse it is today. In my extensive travels, I have consistently found that someone always knows a friend living in one their 24 Moishe Houses unique locations across the globe. I myself formed and organized a house in Vienna Austria, and the foundation was extremely helpful in assisting us with finances, advice, and maintenance. The staff are all well trained, friendly, and certainly do not lack vision. In my opinion, they have truly positioned themselves at the cusp of twenty first century globalization, as the values of local empowerment, global diversity, and community change are advanced through an increasingly integrated network of communications infrastructure. Through their global network, they host and support suck a diverse blend of Jewish identities. This is true to the Jewish people’s long standing tradition as nation charged with the dispersion of ideas, innovation, and exchange. Kudos to the Moishe House, and may they continue to expand their vision across the world!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Forming a successful community institution out of thin air (Vienna). I have worked with many people on their staff, via conference calls/in person meetings, etc. The organization is very well run and smooth, with extremely kind and capable people.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Again, try to develop the social capital between the network. Vienna should be working more with the talent in London, etc. The more intensive development, the great the returns.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Their vision. The moishe house is a unique idea in the Jewish world. It has the power to reap great synergistic effects, especially if they can get more money for retreats and more network integration.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional, kind, relateable, male and female, now my friends after working with them

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand their vision of building grassroots Jewish community both extensively though new houses across the world, as well as intensively through strengthening the social capital between houses and providing leadership opportunities to house leaders

Ways to make it better...

Moishe House had more finances to support houses in doing creative projects/large events/ travel expenses for meeting other regional houses.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Bringing all house residents to a state of stronger group affiliation and identity. Again, this is accomplished only through retreats/convergences/etc, which require extensive funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Moishe house really is cutting edge. I have seen its success first hand, and this organization can really be a platform to connecting talented Jews across the world, leading to other great initiatives

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
