Review for The Hillel JUC of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

The JUC had a powerful impact on my life. It gave me the opportunity to be a leader on campus and in the community. Through event planning, fundraising, cooperation with on and off campus groups, I was exposed to a wide array of responsibilities and challenges. My time as a board member and member at large of the JUC was the most important part of my college experience. I am still friends with many of my JUC peers and learned valuable lessons which I took with me through the rest of college, law school, and now my life as a young attorney. I worked hard to make sure Jewish Student Life thrived in Pittsburgh and to offer great programming to all those who were interested and even those who were not!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Amazing. They always had time to talk to me about an event, a problem (school, personal, or with Hillel) and were understanding and patient. They enhanced my experience 10 fold.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Offer free Shabbat dinner every week and have 150 students every week show up like we did when I was a student. It could always have enough funding for all of the great programs and bring even better speakers and bigger events to Pitt.

Ways to make it better...

We could have eliminated the stigma that Hillel is a strictly religious organization. Those students who define themselves as secular didn't always understand that Hillel can be comfortable for everyone. We did a decent job at this but not enough.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Financial. Everyone knows how great Hillel is but it can only do as much as the funding allows it to do.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
