Review for SUSAN G KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION, INC., Dallas, TX, USA
For the past 5 years I've walked & crewed for the Komen Philly 3-Day. Raising funds in 2011 was more challenging than ever. I have always referred to Komen as the "elephant in the cancer fundraising room". As such, some of things they engage in lately seem petty - i.e. going after small nonprofits who use "...for the cure". Yes, Komen trademarked it, but come on. Never once did those I approached for support bring up the Planned Parenthood connection. Rather, they questioned why Komen was wasting it's time going after smaller nonprofits and admin. salaries. The sanctimonious, moralizing, way-far-right folks who want all the world to be like them (which, by the way, if it ever happened- they would just start eating each other) don't go into the neighborhoods that Planned Parenthood does. Apparently NOT EVERYBODY DESERVES A LIFETIME when Komen feels threatened enough to cave to those who think they'll earn their way into heaven by meddling in the lives and jeopardizing the health of others. Cancer runs rampant in my family... I'll be searching Guidestar for another organization to lend my volunteer support to in this particular fight for life. And I'll be giving my monetary support directly to Planned Parenthood in support of their breast health & education programs.
