As a policy professional, I know just how hard political winds can blow ... but I've never, ever seen a principled non-profit simply cave in to partisan attack. Not only shameful behavior, but completely gutless leadership. Independent directors on the SBK Board should lead an overhaul of the organization, throw out current officers, and show the courage to dump their rules that refuse grants to organizations "under investigation." Investigation by whom? About what? Many honest non-profits at some point will be "investigated." Indeed virtually all SBK grantees are subject to annual OMB-required audits ["investigations"] that determine whether Federal grant rules are being followed. No doubt, then, that SBK used this flimsy excuse to drop PP because it didn't have the moral strength to admit they opposed choice, or to face down partisan attack.
