Review for SUSAN G KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION, INC., Dallas, TX, USA
I am 3-Day walker for the Cure, have two daughters who have walked, one of them more than once. (total adds up to 11000 dollars for Komen. ) My family is affected by breast cancer in two generations. I was planning to do this year's Race for the Cure. I am writing my donors and letting them know how grieved I am that this has happened and that I am now raising money for Planned Parenthood. I will tell everyone about this site, so they can add their reviews. I knew about the issues with fighting other breast cancer organizations and about the trademark fights, but one reason I continued to support Komen was that they partnered with Planned Parenthood.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The gratification that moneys they raised were going to help people whose families didn't have the insurance that our did when breast cancer hit.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Change this new policy about investigation to organizations where something has been proved, not simply alleged -- or in this case, just gone fishing for -- and disqualify Congressional investigations from counting because they are political in motive and purpose. Also stop claiming fiduciary responsibility for this latest move, because all donors I personally know feel betrayed in that arena by this move. Make real moves to requalify as a bipartisan organization with very public moves.

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?
My mother had breast cancer. My daughter was diagnosed at 31, way before the age of mammogram protocol. Young women's cancer is almost always found by they themselves, in which case they need a doctor to go to get it checked out, or by a routine breast exam. Planned Parenthood is serving those who have no other source for their health care. Passion for others not being in my daughter's shoes is my motivation. This is an issue very close to my heart.
Why did you make your donation at this time?
I had been on ongoing supporter of Komen, both in my own walking for the Cure, and in supporting the 3-Days of others. I decided to go big last year, inspired by others who took this on and to do it myself. I raised $2600. My daughters had done the 3-Day the year before and I saw what a wonderful thing it was. I loved it, it was the biggest challenge I had ever taken on and this outcome doesn't take that away from me. But it involves going to everyone you know and asking them to donate their own hard earned money to this organization. and now that is tarnished because 95% of those people deplore this move right now.
What would you tell others about this organization?
That I am sorry for my part in dragging them to an organization capable not only of this politicizing of women's health (no matter what they say now, the evidence is there in early statements and following the political trail of crumbs), but then of revisionist history such as its CEO is putting out now.
