Review for Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, Tallahassee, FL, USA
I have been working with this organization for 5 years as a high school liason that brings students to an elementary site for reading tutoring. When we first started using the program, teen trendsetters, in the elementary schools we noticed an immediate difference in both age groups...the elementary student was gaining confidence from having their mentor, reading skills were improving, and the students actually were excited about reading, learning, and being able to have a library of books AT HOME! One of the aspects that we did not count on was how many teenagers acting as mentors were feeling affected! The teens reported that the sense of responsibility and dedication that they felt towards this program was more than anything else that they had ever done. We were also excited that all of the students that were tutored at the elementary school made significant gains on their reading assessments after being tutored. My students LOVE this program and the support that Volunteer USA gives us b providing all books, workbooks, and teacher guides is OUTSTANDING! The fouundation is easy to reach when needed, willing to help, and committed to improving lives in our state!!!
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
support and materials.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
allow more schools to be involoved, instead of setting limits due to financial limitations.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The people that organize and work for Volunteer USA are always willing to help!
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
dedicated and helpful!
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
help every child in our country enjoy reading and improve reading skills!
Ways to make it better...
we had more advertising materials.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
the support and money it receives from the state.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I love volunteering with this organization!
