Review for Save A Forgotten Equine, Redmond, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I spend most of my free Saturdays volunteering at S.A.F.E., doing general barn chores, cleaning, and helping feed the horses. Everyone I've met within this organization is truly and wholly dedicated to helping the helpless - taking in these animals that are sometimes nearly at the end of their line, caring for them, and rehabilitating them into the magnificent, amazing beings that they all have the potential to be. The horses receive full care and training - they are healthy, well maintained, and mentally sound. Every time I am there, everyone works hard, and we don't cut any corners. On January 21st with a snow storm rolling in and thick hail starting to come down, no one left the site until all the chores were finished. I feel proud to be involved with such a top-notch organization.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2012

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

I believe they already have made this change, but at the time when I started, I don't feel that training for brand new volunteers was thorough enough. I know that they have made changes to the volunteer orientation and training and I'm sure it is better now.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

The skills and experience I am gaining at SAFE will prove to be very valuable when it comes time for me to adopt my own horse(s).
