Review for Rescue Bank, Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Tomball SOS (Save Our Strays), a feral cat TNR and rescue organization with which I volunteer, is a member group of Rescue Bank in Houston. Our organization traps, neuters, and releases, as well as maintains, feral cats on the main streets of Tomball, TX. Volunteers feed from 200-300 cats and kittens a day (as well as a few ducks and a couple of dogs). Before Rescue Bank, volunteers dipped into their own pockets to buy food and supplies, such as traps, cages, bedding, bowls, flea treatment, and so forth. Each night's feeding costs about $35, and volunteers feed one to three nights a week, depending on the number of volunteers at that time. You can do the math! Rescue Bank has helped raise money for supplies, but more importantly, distributed huge amounts of food given by their donors. When we were in dire need, such as during Hurricane Ike and the wildfires, the administrators personally delivered supplies. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. Without them, we would have a really tough time finding volunteers willing to spend $35-105 a week as well as having to spend the time crawling around under bushes and behind dumpsters to feed and trap feral cats! Thank you, Rescue Bank.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

During Hurricane Ike, we were without power for over two weeks. We have a water well, so we had no power, no water. Rescue Bank donated and arranged for delivery of water for our foster cats. During the wildfires in Texas during the last year, we proactively evacuated when the fire was about 8 miles from our house. Rescue Bank administrators personally delivered bags of linens to use as cage liners for the temporary shelter we set up in a friend's garage.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find more volunteers able to market and create buzz for these folks in order to garner more donatons and get more volunteers.
